Callie Marita Emma Johnson, was born on April 26, 1946 to the late Reverend Clarence and Margaret Thomas Johnson in Washington D.C. She was the first born of their two children.
Being the daughter of a pastor, Callie had a very strong spiritual foundation, and gave her life to Christ at a very young age. She attended Asbury Broadneck United Methodist Church with her mother until she followed in her father's footstep and was assigned her own ministry. Even though her ministry led her else where, she raised her children at her home church, and also served in many capacities, such as Lay Leader, and creating the Dance Ministry known as "Voices"
The Legacy
Callie was educated in Anne Arundel County, and graduated with the 1964 class of Wiley H. Bates High School. She was a Majorette, member of The National Honor Society, Member of the Student Council, and the Drama Club. She landed her first major role in the school play, "Gaslight." Callie attended The American University and received her Master's Degree in Human Services from Lincoln University in 1994. She received her Masters of Divinity Degree from Howard University in 2000. In 2004, she became a member of the Annapolis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. She was an advocate of education and was an avid reader, and especially enjoyed good spiritual books. In her early years, Callie was a Teachers Aide at Lothian Elementary School, Director of the Head Start Program, and the Director for the Boys & Girls Club of Annapolis, Maryland.
Working with the "The least, the lost, and the left out" was something that Callie valued greatly. If you ever got to experience the"Callie Hug",it would not soon be forgotten. It was so welcoming, and instantly alleviated all of your worries and fears. She lived with the mission of always giving back to the community. In 2011 she successfully hosted a Breast Cancer Awareness Celebration, in which the proceeds were donated to Breast Cancer patients who needed help, and were not able to fully cover the cost of their treatment. Her legacy of giving and community service lives on through the scholarship and the efforts of her husband, children, family and friends. "To whom much is given, much is required", were words that she lived by and her beautiful smile, and zest for life will forever be in the hearts and minds of those who she has touched.
